Foods to Fight Inflammation

When it comes to optimal health and wellness, a key nutrition goal should be to include foods that will help reduce chronic inflammation. It is different than acute inflammation (think about the sudden swelling when you twist an ankle). Chronic inflammation often goes unnoticed because it occurs inside our bodies, and over time, it increases the risk of such diseases as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression and even Alzheimer’s.

To fight inflammation, focus on a healthy eating plan such as the Mediterranean Diet. Stock your kitchen with foods such as: green leafy vegetables, berries, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, nuts, fish such as salmon. These foods contain many antioxidants and polyphenols which are your body’s army against inflammation. Limit foods that increase inflammation such as refined carbs, processed foods, too much red meat, excessive alcohol. Oh, and of course exercise- this also reduces inflammation, so don’t forget to move!
